Attending law school gave Brice Ashford ’25 the chance to continue his pursuit of a high-level formal education that would prepare him to undertake a career that would benefit society.

Originally from Ridgeland, Mississippi, Ashford earned a degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi.

During his time at law school, Ashford joined many student organizations. He served as the vice president of the Arts, Entertainment & Sports Law Society; a representative on the Board of Governors for the Student Bar Association for each respective year; and was a member of the Black Law Students Association. Ashford was also a member of the Connecticut Moot Court Board and served on the organization’s bylaws and diversity, equity, and inclusion committees.

Ashford advises UConn Law students to take the opportunity to participate in the competitions that promote lawyerly skill. He mentioned the annual competitions hosted by the Negotiation and Dispute Resolution Society, Mock Trial Society, and Moot Court Board, as well as the write-on competition to gain journal membership. He feels by taking advantage of these opportunities, students can expand their access to valuable resources and establish meaningful connections.

“Students have the ability to shape their own future by utilizing the resources around them,” Ashford says of his biggest takeaway from his time at UConn Law. “The number of conceivable career paths available to students is plentiful.”

Ashford was surprised how quickly his three years passed. He will be an associate at Carmody Torrance Sandak and Hennessy, LLP upon passing the bar.
