2025 Graduate: Johanna Weber

Johanna Weber in front of UConn Law campus

As a teenager, Johanna Weber ’25 wanted to work as a music manager. She didn’t know how to get there and had been told studying law would enable her to work in whatever field she wanted. Along the way, her goals changed and now Weber looks forward to putting her LLM to use in environmental and energy law instead.

Weber is from  Münster, Germany, where she completed her law degree last year at the University of  Münster. She was glad to find a supportive atmosphere at UConn Law, where she could ask professors or other students for help at any time.

“All the people I have met here will always have a special place in my heart,” she says. “I will always remember meeting my friends in the cafe, drinking a cup of coffee, and playing cards although we had a bunch of reading to do. The community of international students is something very special that I will always appreciate.”

Weber served as LLM representative and treasurer for the student organization Connecticut Alliance of International Lawyers (CAIL). Through CAIL, she helped organize apple picking, an Oktoberfest event, and a visit to the Connecticut legislature. She also worked as a research assistant for Professor Kat Smith.

She recommends that UConn Law students attend as many sporting events as possible, saying “this is a very unique opportunity at American universities, and UConn has especially great men’s and women’s basketball teams – the women even won the National Championship this year. The atmosphere is always great and ‘on fire.’”

After graduation, Weber plans to meet one of her friends in San Francisco and go on a three-week road trip on the west coast. Then, she will return to Germany, where she will put her Environmental and Energy Law LLM to work in the energy law department of a large law firm in Düsseldorf.  She is also hoping to start a two-year traineeship, required for Germany’s second state exam, in December.
