Daniel Delgado Jaramillo’25 was inspired to attend law school like his grandfather. He felt his knack for reading, communicating with others, and writing, along with his personality and professional dreams, was the perfect fit for the profession.

Delgado Jaramillo is from Bogotá, Colombia, where he studied law at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, one of the country’s most prestigious universities.

“The world is bigger than you can even imagine,” he says. “As an LLM student, I had the fortune to meet people from all around the world. My friends are from countries that I doubt I will be able to visit in my lifetime. UConn was an open door for me to get to know people from multiple cultures of the world.”

Delgado Jaramillo made the most of his experience at UConn Law by attending events organized by the student organizations Connecticut Alliance of International Lawyers and Latine Law Students Association.

“UConn Law is a tremendous community,” he says. “I come from a university in my country in which friendship was not a relevant value. Here at UConn Law, I am surprised by how people really care about others. I really think UConn Law is a big family where everyone has space to succeed and live their own learning process. You will always find someone there to help you in challenging moments.”

After obtaining his Insurance LLM, Delgado Jaramillo feels prepared to return to Brigard Urrutia, his previous employer in Colombia. His LLM will set him up for significant growth inside the company and has made him feel more confident facing challenges.

When asked about what students should do during their time at UConn Law, Delgado Jaramillo says, “Attend all the UConn basketball and hockey games you can. Visit the UConn Storrs campus.”
