Information for the Class of 2025

Academic Regalia

I. Mortarboards or tams are worn during the processional and recessional. Men remove mortarboards or tams for the singing of the national anthem.
II. Tassels are placed to the left.
III. Hoods are worn as follows:

• Place hood over head with velvet and colors facing outward.
• Button front cord to blouse or shirt
• Fasten cord across back to keep hood secure.
• Pull colors of hood lining outward from inside center so that they project to the outside and are more prominent.

Accessible Seating and Parking

If you need to request accessible seating and/or parking for friends and/or family who will be attending the ceremony, please fill out the Accessible Seating and Parking Form.

Alumni Hooding

If you would like to be hooded by a family member who is a graduate of UConn Law, please fill out the Alumni Hooding Form.

Ceremony

The University of Connecticut School of Law will hold its commencement ceremony on the law school campus on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The line-up will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the procession will begin at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.

You must wear your full academic attire for commencement (cap, tassel, gown, and hood).

Commencement Program

The University has switched to a fully electronic commencement program. The link to view the 2025 Commencement Program will be posted when available.

Guest Speaker

Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam will be this year's guest speaker. Click the link to read the story posted on UConn Today.

Livestream

The 2025 commencement ceremony will be streamed live online by Total Webcasting. Video of the ceremony will be added to this website a few weeks afterward.

Photography

Flash Photography is the official photographer for the University’s Commencement ceremonies. Proofs will be sent to the email address provided on the Name Reader cards distributed at the ceremonies shortly after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online or by phone. Flash Photography can be contacted via email or telephone.

Members of the audience using handheld cameras are asked to remain in their seats and keep the aisles clear.

Parking

Parking will be available in the school lots as well as neighboring lots (MacKenzie Hall, Hartford International University for Religion and Peace, CT Historical Society). Please follow posted signage as you approach our campus.

Regalia

To purchase regalia, please contact the Hartford Barnes and Noble bookstore, 18 Front Street, Hartford. Questions about ordering regalia should be directed to the Barnes and Noble bookstore at 860-263-2260 or sm8208@bncollege.com. You must return your regalia to Barnes and Noble immediately following the ceremony to the Library Café.

Seating

Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Seating is not reserved and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guest seating will open at 9:00 a.m. There are over 1,000 seats available and will be more than enough for everyone.

Here’s how the hooding process will work on stage:
